A Love Affair With Pilates – Meet Vee Wiesheu
Fun, dynamic and energetic, Vee Wiesheu is a Pilates instructor – and Pilates fanatic. She started practising as rehabilitation from a motorbike accident and describes her introduction to the exercise as “love at first sight”. She went on to complete the Elixr Pilates Teacher Training and has been an instructor since August 2016. Here, she shares her Pilates experience and what she brings to each of her classes.
1. What prompted you to make Pilates your career?
I joined the Elixr School of Pilates (ESOP) to improve my own knowledge and found that Kath and Karl were extraordinary mentors. They are the reason I decided to make Pilates my career – they were convinced I would make an amazing instructor and really made me believe in myself. Kath then helped me to find my first paid class and three months later I quit my job and have been teaching full-time ever since.
2. What can you tell us about your ESOP experience?
It’s full on and is probably the best educational experience I’ve ever had. It’s very well organised and designed, and the school ensures that you really know your stuff by the time you leave. We students quickly became good friends – it’s great to be part of this Pilates and ESOP community. I’m especially grateful to have learned about sequencing as this is the key to a great class. ESOP taught us to deliver a well-balanced complete-body workout with spot-on progressions and modifications for injuries, and this has given me the greatest confidence as an instructor. It’s also meant that I’ve had amazing feedback from clients.
3. Do you have a favourite Pilates exercise?
Feet in Straps changed my life – and my inner thighs! I’m obsessed with inner thigh work. Rachel says I have a serious problem!
4. What aspects of your personality and philosophy do you bring to your classes?
Where do I begin? My students get 120% Vee – it’s all there, although I don’t swear as much in class! I may not be the most knowledgeable or spiritual instructor, and I’ll never be perfect, but I’ve realised that people come to my class because they know they’ll get great entertainment along with a really good workout. And if they’re having a good laugh here and there, happy days! I don’t want people to drag themselves to class, I want them to be as pumped about it as I am.
5. How do you find balance in your life?
Running is my meditation, and so is riding my motorbike and spending time with my puppy, Django. He’s the love of my life, the best thing that ever happened to me.
6. What do you do to relax?
I love having a good time with friends and spending days on the beach that are followed by a chilled BBQ and Corona.
7. What’s something most of us don’t know about you?
Most of my clients know more about me then they probably want to. I’m an over-sharer and a pretty open book. There are no surprises here, what you see is what you get.
8. Who is your biggest inspiration?
Rather than a specific person, I find that life itself inspires me every day. I’m a very good listener and I thrive on interacting with people who have different qualities or know things that I don’t. Listening has taught me a lot about life.
9. Is there a quote or mantra you live by?
I’m not in a competition with anyone. I run my own race and have no desire to try to be better than others. I just aim to improve myself – to be the best version of me that I can be.
10. What do you love most about living in Sydney?
I love the ocean and beaches, the people, and the life I live here.
