New Yoga Teachers – Peter and Morgane
Peter Rutledge
Teaching Iyengar on Mondays at 6.30-7.30pm
We are delighted to introduce you to our newest addition, Peter Rutledge. He has recently joined our esteemed team of yoga instructors and brings with him a unique blend of expertise, accessibility, and wit. Whether you’re an experienced practitioner or a yoga novice, Peter’s all-level classes promise to enrich your practice considerably.
How it all began
Peter’s journey into the world of yoga is as serendipitous as it is fascinating. In 1992, he was captivated by the sight of someone performing a headstand, and that single moment ignited a passion that has since become his vocation. From that day onward, Peter committed himself to yoga and hasn’t looked back since.
Credentials and experience
Initiating his formal training in 1992, Peter began teaching at the Australian School of Yoga in 1999. In 2001, he gained his qualification as an Iyengar Yoga instructor under the tutelage of respected trainers Anna Prior and Kay Parry.
But his educational journey didn’t end there. Keen to deepen his understanding and skills, Peter travelled to Pune, India, to study under the eminent Iyengar teachers, Prashant and Geeta Iyengar. He has also benefitted from training with other senior instructors, including Manos Manouso, Glen Ceresoli, Carol Hart, and John Leebold.
A lifelong learner and mentor
Peter’s enthusiasm for yoga extends far beyond his personal practice. He is committed to imparting his considerable knowledge and zeal to his students. One of Peter’s most endearing qualities is his sense of humour, which he skilfully incorporates into his classes, making even challenging poses feel less daunting.
What can you expect in Peter’s classes?
Upon attending one of Peter’s classes, you’ll immediately notice his emphasis on traditional Iyengar techniques. These focus on alignment, sequencing, and the careful use of props to execute each asana (pose) safely and effectively.
And let’s not forget the humour! Peter’s witty commentary brings a light-hearted, yet focused atmosphere to his classes, transforming even strenuous sessions into enjoyable experiences.
So, whether you wish to advance your existing practice or are keen to experience yoga for the first time, you will find a welcoming and enriching environment in Peter’s classes. We invite you to experience the unique blend of challenge, humour, and wisdom that Peter contributes to Elixr. We can assure you that you’ll leave not just with a more robust physique, but also with a lighter, more buoyant spirit.
Morgane Stroobant
Teaching Hatha Flow on Monday and Wednesday at 6.30am-7.30am
We are thrilled to welcome Morgane, our latest addition to the distinguished faculty of yoga instructors at Elixr. Bringing with her a rich background in Vinyasa, Yin, and Kids yoga, Morgane promises an experience that goes far beyond the asanas, designed to be accessible, fun, and insightful for yogis at all levels.
A journey rooted in self-discovery
Morgane’s love affair with yoga began in 2004 and intensified upon her move to Australia in 2005. Initially drawn to the practice as part of her acting career and training, her daily regimen soon became non-negotiable. Finding yoga to be an essential part of her personal and emotional growth, she transitioned naturally into teaching in May 2018.
The inspiration behind her teaching
When asked about her reason for becoming a yoga teacher, Morgane expressed an earnest desire to deepen her personal practice beyond mere poses. It evolved into a commitment to sharing the yoga journey, which has deeply impacted her life. Morgane is passionate about assisting her students in making significant discoveries both on and off the mat. She aims to help students live holistically, fostering connections to their inner selves and the broader community.
An array of yoga styles and philosophies
Having trained under respected yoga mentors like Elisha Young, Mel Mclaughlin, Arian Levanael, and Rachael Coopes, Morgane is well-qualified in Vinyasa, Yin, and Kids yoga. She also incorporates the practice of mantra under the guidance of Nadav Khan, providing both the yin and yang elements crucial for a well-rounded practice.
What makes her classes unique?
Morgane loves diving into the intricacies of hips, backbends, and arm balances. Her classes, while fun and engaging, can sometimes be challenging, encouraging students to dig deeper into their practice. But for Morgane, the asana is just the beginning; she is dedicated to equipping her students to apply yoga principles in their daily lives—where she believes “the real yoga happens.”
Her teaching philosophy centres around living a mindful life, anchored in gratitude. She teaches her students that it’s not merely about achieving a pose; it’s about the journey and what you learn about yourself along the way.
Never too old, never too young
Morgane firmly believes that yoga is a life-changing practice accessible to all, regardless of age. Continuing her learning journey, she’s mentored by Arian Levanael and remains committed to deepening her understanding of this “full spectrum practice” that she finds eternally rewarding.
